Lost and Found (First Festival)
CukoRakko Spring 2017 – Soul Mechanic
I was on the edge of the crowd seeing the lights, feeling the pulse of Soul Mechanic (they killed it!). I know some of the players so I was invested before they struck the first note. The lasers were flashing and hurt my eyes. I felt disconnected and on the edge of what was going on. A thought for which there are no words struck me. And I began to focus on the blackness between the strobe’s brilliance. It may sound odd or impossible but it is not. Our mind must register the black between the flashes or there would be no flash, only light. As I focused on that space my perception changed. I could see past the outer brilliance into the happening. There was a stillness behind all the movement and I felt connected. Then I noticed a lady enter the crowd up front and thought it must be similar thing. There is a solid silence from which all sound emanates. I imagined her experience as she entered that place. I wrote . . .
Getting lost in the crowd (Chorus)
Becoming part of the buzz
Bass has consumed me
I forget who I wuz
Focusing on the flashes
Leaves you without
Seek the pause between the masses
Let your insides out
Frequencies fragrant with color
Killin’ the Drop
Trapped between, I’m floatin’
The Pocket’s got me, and I can’t stop
I feel it like a heartbeat
It’s fillin’ up my chest
Feet not touching the ground
Baby you know the rest
Can you feel the Stillness
Just behind the beat
The Silence is calling
Find the Groove, find release
