This reminds me of high school, dirt roads and singing at the top of my lungs. I had this double album set. My buddy Fimnora Westcaw is writing about long songs. This is the longest I know and remember that it always felt too short back then. It made me smile to remember and see what everybody else is posting.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMVvNtcMYjo,
Very cool…the good old daze. I don’t know if I’m remembering properly but I thought I read somewhere that the Beatles listened/learned from Lynyrd??
I dont know. I was thinking they were a bit earlier but I have vast continents of ignorance in my landscape
“vast continents of ignorance in my landscape” …I’m going to have to quote you on that!! And maybe it wasn’t Lynyrd? Or maybe it wasn’t the Beatles!
🙂 I used to be smart and know every thing. Now I know a little and enjoy my ignorance. It is much more fun and a much lighter load. Good travels my friend.
Got it…I’m on that same little path in the woods
Yes, Free Bird is still great. I remember when those boys first went to Muscle Shoals. Two other “long songs” from that era are Don McClean’s “American Pie” and “Susie Q” by Creedence Clearwater.
Janis Joplin did a long version of “Bobbie McGee” as well but it wasn’t quite so long as the others. Many of the more popular groups would “stretch-out a tune” when they wanted to show case the band members or simply to change tempo.
All of those songs are a part of my childhood. Hippies and Apollo and Vietnam and Nixon and wondering why my father argued with Cronkite and sensing the paranoia which called for personal bomb shelters. But also woods and fields and bayous and fish and dirt roads and swimming in creeks. Those songs remind me of the taste of those times. I enjoyed that you stopped by here. Thank you.
I didn’t know the song nor have I ever seen a 8 Track player (outside of That 70’s show) but I enjoyed this song and its spirit. Thank you 🙂
Its old people’s stuff. 🙂
🙂 Not that much older, my friend. I think it is the pace of technology that changes so fast!
Im still about 21 or so.
I know I remember your catfish story 🙂 I used to be 28 for a long time in my head.
Love this song!
Oh, it IS longer! LOL Great stuff…
You had a real restless spirit, too, didn’t you…
*Runs up and hugs the stuffin’ outta you!!!!!!* This is THE BEST!!!!! And I have that record too! Well, I have everyone they made back in the day!
I agree, it’s always too short. And I have a rule, Skynyrd can never be stopped in the middle of a song… If I’m out in the car just getting in from somewhere, if Skynyrd is on the radio, I’m in that car till the echo of that last chord fades! And I got a smile a mile wide right now!
Thank you a million times over for this!
My friend. 🙂 Hugs back. The days of 8-tracks and CB radios.
